Today was a lovely day spend inside which is rare because:
1. I’d much rather be outside but it was raining
2. If we went outside we would end up adding onto our fun some running around grocery kind of stuff which is no fun
3. We’d been doing a lot of running around all week and my husband had some work to do
so staying in was a good idea. Plus we got another load of laundry done and the floor vacuumed and I made a ton of waffles. Yum.
We played some WiiU with the boys – just a bit as I find it doesn’t take long to feel overloaded with sensory crazies – and made some art with oil pastel and watercolour and a bit of acrylics. The boys used their watercolour books and got right into it.
It was nice to create something throughout the day (I started in three minute increments while loading and unloading the waffle maker).
This was yet another experiment for me in the sense that I haven’t done much watercolour as I find it intimidating and adding the pastel (I used white to the sky and moon) was new as well.
It was hard not to add a marker outline as I usually do and am still somewhat tempted but I think more so out of habit. Any, I mean really any, suggestions for this piece that would add to it? I went to art school so I am used to criticism so go for it! There is much to learn from making mistakes and from others.
It felt good to just let things flow and not fret about what comes next. Meditative, um, for three minutes at a time. The waffles were sooo worth it. 🙂
Off to have dinner and then go to a girl’s night clothing swap! I will come back later and check out what’s going on for AEDM for today!
Happy creating!
This is gorgeous. I love the simplicity of the piece just the way it is. Well done for creating such a magical piece. Is she holding a ball, the moon or the world? I guess that is left up to interpretation of the viewer. I guess that is what is so great about this type of art. It leaves for the viewer to be creative themselves about the interpretation of the piece of art. When I look at this piece it speaks to me: I am strong and I am standing on top of the world. And I am also holding the whole world within my own hands. With other words all my possibilities in this world are coming from my inner world. As I read the other day: All creation starts with a thought. Thoughts become words and words become action. I also love that she does not have a face, this also gives the opportunity for the viewer to put their own emotion into this piece. I remember years ago when I did pre school teaching learning about giving fabric dolls to young children without a face. So there are no eyes, mouth and nose etc. And as a result the doll would not have a set emotion on its face. This would leave children than the opportunity to play with the doll within their own imagination and allow for much more creativity than most currently available toys.
I love your interpretation of this piece. It’s beautiful and touches me. 🙂 You certainly have a way with art and words as well and I love it! As for the idea of the girl with no facial features, for once, I did not even think of it, she is just that way. I think also because this piece doesn’t need for her to have a set emotion for it to be read, as you have so well. I love the idea of children with dolls with no set features. These days we take so much of imagination out of children’s toys it’s sad because it does not feed the child to the extent it could and they have such amazing imaginations!
Years ago when I went to teachers college I learned the importance of imaginative play for young children. It is a very important part of their development. It is a way in which the child processes the world around itself through imaginary play. When we take this away from children by giving them toys which does not allow much opportunity for their own imagination and creativity to be used, we are actually depriving the child of very important developmental stages. So bring out a card board box and a few items from around the house and they could be amused for hours. But in these times with so much technology I feel the children forget how to use their imagination, if the program they are using is too limited. So I feel it is now even more important then ever to expose children to creating. Any form of art, writing, music etc. And technology can be used for this also. There are so many computer programs these days that allow you to be creative as well. We just need to guide them in using the right programs that allows them to be creative as well.
I love hearing this from you!!! I have a HUGE respect for teachers as I home educate my children and it’s been a learning and growing process for me as well. We do a lot of play and the learning that happens as they create their own world is wonderful to eavesdrop on. 🙂 I am amazed by the blessed brain of a child. There is truly nothing more precious and something that we are rooting out and stomping on these days. It’s sad when children do not know what to do in their free time because the world has scheduled every moment for them and made rules for how to use that time. They are growing up before they are ready. This is a general statement, of course. Simply toys are great as well as being outside, letting them be loud and run and jump and climb. I love this chat – you are full of wisdom!
Beautiful composition,. Love the tones and the pose of the girl, lovely post too
Thank you, Zena! I am finding this whole creative process a journey back to Self. It’s like finding the way back home after so much wandering.
I don’t have any suggestions as I think it’s perfect as it is! Love her!

Wow, that is stunning. I think it is wonderful as is 🙂

Hi moongirl, Thanks for visiting my site. It’s been so fun to discover other artists’ work during AEDM!
I really like the way her red hair flows out like a cloud in the wind. Your style has a nice, wistful feel to it. 🙂
You’re welcome – love your work! and yes, it’s been wonderful connecting with so many amazing artists during this month. Hope to continue. 🙂
I love love love your lizard and just had to say that again!
There is so much to love about this piece! Can’t wait until I can sit down with you over a cup of tea and talk about your creations.
I love how she feels powerful yet with the color bleeding away, somewhat temporary, as if something is fading away. Maybe leaving her girlhood behind and taking her rightful place on the mountain, distanced from her little red home.
Oh, and I love the colors too!
Eek! I know! Sooo excited!!!
This piece was one that I wasn’t happy with during the process but I kept on going which is something new for me. I have given myself room to mess up and make something ‘not perfect’ which I never would have before. I am quite happy with how it turned out and I must say, proud of myself for not tearing it up half way through! I think there is a lesson for me to be had there…;)
I love your style of drawing. It is so unique!
Thank you, Monica! 🙂
