If you have visited my family blog you are familiar with our outdoor hikes and experiences. Today was a Mamma’s hike, meaning a group of us who left the kids and dad’s at home while we hit the trails. I thought I’d share it here to show what else I do with my days when I have some free time.
It was -14C when we set out at 9:30 this morning for our first Mamma’s hike with a windchill of -24C. We bundled up in preparation for some very cold weather, no doubt. The five of us were quite excited about getting out on our own into the wilderness! The trail was snowy and icy but I put on my Yaktrax and they helped quite a bit. At one point I was so warm from our trek that I took off my mittens and my hands stayed warm. It was an amazing hike that lasted just over two hours of traversing wooded trails of ice, snow and rocks. There were some areas where the trail was on the edge of a 30-40ft drop. Note to self: do not take the boys this way! I think I would be too stressed worrying about them in the ice and snow on such a steep trail area. For now, if we do this trek, we take the trail a little bit in from the edge of the lake.
Looking at this map, we trekked from Maskwa (left side) around Charlies Lake. It took us about 2.25 hours.
I only got a few pics with my phone as it decided to zonk out – too cold!
It was beautiful and felt so good. Now I am pooped. Good pooped.
It’s time for a glass of wine and some art making!

LOVE! So happy you bundled up and come out! Looking forward to many more Saturday hikes! xx
Already looking forward to next month!
And… Now I know what my butt looks like! Ha! 🙂
Hahahaaaaa! 🙂
What a great idea! I think I need to suggest it to some moms here. So many of us love nature and a time to ourselves would be perfect.
Thank you for sharing ♥
It was Dawn who organized it, of course! 🙂 You should do it, it’s a great idea!
I love walking in the winter you can always bundle up with more clothes! Lovely views and it seemed a bit steep on the hill (cliff??).
I am really starting to enjoy these winter walks! There were parts that were steep that made for a good workout. No cliffs but there was a part of the trail at the edge of a steep hill falling about 40 feet or so to the lake below. Not a part a bring the kids to!
Wonderful! I saw this on Instagram. I live too far away (as in I need to get into plane to get to you) otherwise I would love to join from time to time! 🙂
You are welcome anytime! 🙂
