I finished the t-shirt rug and the boys love it! When I went to take a picture they both wanted to be in it which is good because it shows the size. It’s not very big so I think it will end up in the bathroom as a mat. I’m okay with that as I really just wanted to have a way to re-use all of those old t’s.
I wish I had counted how many t’s I had before I started cutting but I think it was between 12-15. I have a friend who has used old sheets so I may do that for a rug for our living room. It was fun and easy so I don’t mind making another. Even my youngest crocheted a few spots and now they’d each like one for their rooms.

I am still reading Journey to the Dark Goddess but since it’s on my iPad it’s not always a handy read. A friend of mine lent me her copy of Outlander months ago so I’ve finally picked it up. I’m not sure how far I will get as I just got a notice that I have four books in at the library. Uh-oh!
I am also progressing on the shawl but I am having a hard time with it buckling at the top as you can see. It’s not taking on the right shape. After I took this photo I ripped it out and started again to crochet a bit looser and it seems to help. I also skipped one of the rows this time around because it just seemed to pull the whole piece into itself as it called to only chain one then skip a triple and then triple crochet into the next so it again didn’t lay flat. I am just not as knowledgable with crochet as knit but each time I learn a little more.
I shall keep at it and it was a much faster process the second time around. I crocheted in a couple of hours to the point where I had originally ripped it out. It will be completed by next week – if it doesn’t drive me crazy with bulging.
Any suggestions are so welcome!
I am off to the beach today with my boys to check out the bullfrogs and their tadpoles. Will be posting about it on our family blog. 🙂
Following along with Ginny where I am seeing some beautiful creations and good books (to add to my Good Reads list)!
Happy creating!

Oh, the rug is awesome!
The shawl is going to be so pretty. I’ve never crocheted, but my daughter has done it some and is currently trying to increase her crocheting knowledge!
Have a great time at the beach. Sounds fun!
I find the youtube videos to be very helpful when I get stumpted with both knits and crochets. What did we ever do before that? 😉
I started listening to Outlander years ago. I really want to finish it and move onto the next book before the next season starts on Starz. I love how your rug came out! What a great idea for t-shirt repurposing!
Yes, I figured I would try reading the books and then if the series gets to Netflix I can watch it!
The rug looks great! A friend has been suggesting I read Outlander, must do that soon 🙂
It’s such a long book and as it’s a series I know that I am going to be reading for a while!
I LOVE that crocheted T-Shirt yarn rug. It seems to me the hardest part of crocheting with T-shirt yarn is making the yarn. I’ve tried and found it kind of hard on my hands (my thumbs specifically). Maybe I’m doing something wrong. Or maybe I just have old thumbs. Your pictures make me want to give this a try, though.
I use a rotary cutter and a quilting ruler for cutting so I get nice straight lines and they are super easy to cut with the rotary cutter. Love it. My hands get a bit tired too but once I have the strips I pull on it and it stretches a bit and rolls into itself a little. That helps.
Love the rug. What a great way to recycle.
I hate throwing out used clothing and usually bring them to the second hand shop but some things are just too worn to do so. I was thrilled when I heard about t-shirt rugs and they are fast and easy!
your rug is looking mighty fine! I was surprised how big it was!! I haven’t read that series yet, but I hear good good things!
I am loving the rug so much I think I am going to make more – a nice big one for the living room. 🙂
wonderful photos of your boys on your cool rug.
always fun to hear what you are reading.
you left to go frog hunting and it is time for me to do some wandering too
sweet weekend to you and yours
Thank you, Tammie! We had a wonderful morning finding big tadpoles and dodging the hungry flies (that part wasn’t so wonderful!).
Cool t-rug!
The great thing about crochet is that you can usually modify it without making a real difference to the final item. It almost looks like there are too many stitches towards the top. If you can’t get it to look right on your next attempt, try decreasing the pattern by a stitch, or two if symmetrical.
I have since redone it and have had to add extra stitches further on but am tempted to again pull it out because it still doesn’t sit flat. I may try your take on this – hadn’t thought of that. Hmmm..why can’t patterns just work out? 😉
