Oh my goodness, I am loving the workshop, In the Land of Light and Shadows, by Danielle Donaldson. I have learned so much from Danielle’s workshops (see side bar) and I have also just received her book (yippee!) but I will talk about that another time. 😉
I am very inspired by Danielle’s work, among others. Her wiley ways with watercolour are what I am digging right now and her mixed media work in this lesson. I briefly touched on it in my previous post and I have since finished a painting on birch board with many steps involved. I must has I am definitely going to by using more birch board. I just loved painting on it, what can I say?
I love love (love) that Danielle’s videos take you through her entire process and she talks about why she is doing what and how. She talks about her supplies and why she loves what she uses, and how they work for her.
There was some acrylic paint and carbon paper involved, the latter of which I am now in love with, I have to say.
I used some new mediums too and am totally digging the layers that I can work with!
Look at those bits of colours showing through the white. Love it.
Below is a before and after of the wing once I have added yet another layer of colour. I Dig.
One of the last steps got me thinking about my work, where I want to go, where I feel I am lacking and then choosing words to focus on in order help me get there.
Here is the final piece. I used a stabilo pencil for the shadows – oh how I love my stabilo for messy outlines too!
I am quite happy with this piece and learned a lot in the process. This piece now sits above my art table where I can see these inspiring words every day.
I like the idea of the wing. I love wings. I’ve used them before and was happy to use one again. Wings are great.
Side note: my mother sent me some tea this week and I was so super excited to make a cuppa. This tea, as you can see, is from a store in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I love that place, the town and the store! This Russian Earl Grey is my favourite. Oh yes. So I share. (they take online orders) 😉
I have since started on the second video and technique for the workshop. I love this workshop because I can go at my own pace. I still have yet to finish some stuff from the first workshop, Storybooks and Studious Girls, because I have to purchase book binding thread and gee, it’s hard to come by out here!
There’s been a lot of rain this past week but we did get a day of sunshine and I took advantage by bringing my sketching outdoors – with a cuppa Russian Earl Grey no doubt!
I have now finished my sketching. Next step is paint. White paint. Sweet! I’ll keep you posted. 😉
Happy creating! Oh, and happy blue moon too!
Moongirl xx

The layers are amazing! I love the wing too!
Thank you, Dawn. It was so fun to do. I loved painting with my fingers too. The funnest.
you make me want to watch and do her lessons again. Danielle is a wonderful and teacher, with fun lessons.
I love your pieces, they are each a delight to see and beautiful too.
That tea sounds so good. Earl Gray is one of my favorites. Sweet weekend to you.
I am really enjoying her lessons. I have her book too but will not let myself open it until I finish these because I too easily get sidetracked! 😉 A good weekend to you too! xx
So nice to read your comment on my blogpost today……..and I love that you see feathers. I love that vision and symbolism. I can see them too since you mentioned it. I am having such a hard time doing the right thing when it comes to my self care and body. I resist going to do the exercises and walking etc. I hope to get started soon. I know that it must be what is wrong with my back pain. Love your work with the workshop your taking . I’ve always enjoyed applying white over color it’s stunning in your piece and I love the isolated wing. Beautiful!! Thanks again for stopping over .. cheers.
The hardest part for me is when I fall off of the yoga/meditation wagon which usually happens when we go away. I lose my connection to myself and just feel crappy. Now I know when I feel that way it’s even more important for me to make sure I lay out that mat. Hugs to you and universal love.
