I have finished another piece from Danielle Donaldson‘s mixed media workshop The Land of Light and Shadows. Geez, I do love the courses from Jeanne Oliver and Danielle’s are no exception! Have I said that before? Probably. Maybe just once. 😉
It has been a beautiful summer and even on those hot days there is shade under which to create in our back yard. I do love that. I began by sketching some ideas to figure out what I would like to draw on my watercolour background. The subject was ‘houses on stilts’ but I began with a warmup of sketches of what was around me. Love the sound of my bamboo chimes in the breeze so I had to draw them!
My houses began and it was so much fun creating a fantastic world of my own!
Step by step it was all coming together. I love the way the next layer really stands out over the first! Such rich colours! Ooooooo!
Fun paper details too!
I loved every bit of the process. I enjoyed seeing how the piece evolved with every new technique.
Little details are the bestest and I am just loving white markers these days. You may have noticed them appear in other posts/pieces. 😉
My boys really like the way I had the moon, starts and clouds hanging by lines. I find the more I draw the more my ‘should do’s’ and ‘shouldn’t do’s’ disappear. That is a huge huge step for me and it is very freeing.

You can click on any of the images to see them larger in another window. 😉
I have two more exercises to do from this workshop and they are totally different from each other. I like that! If you want to know more about the techniques used and courses just click on the links at the beginning of this post.
Happy creating!

Oh wow, I LOVE this piece! I’m not sure how large it is, but can’t you just see it on a huge canvas in a kid’s room? Or even better, painted directly on the wall? I’m swooning at the thought. 🙂 Absolutely gorgeous work! I love all your beautiful details, and the little “strings” holding up the clouds, stars and moon are such a great touch!
Thank you, Elizabeth, as always! 🙂 🙂 ❤ ❤ I never thought of mentioning the size (it’s about 10×15 inches) but I can see your point. I think I will do that from now on. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of it as a canvas print – ooooh ya!
so many wonderful details! really a fun and charming piece.
I also took this course when it first came out. I think it is time to do it again.
Did you post any of the work you did? I love seeing how styles differ when using the same workshop. 🙂
I love seeing the transformation in the photos! Wonderful art!
Thank you, Alex!!! ❤ ❤ ❤
this is so gorgeous, thanks for sharing the photos of your process
Thank you, Joyce! I really enjoyed the process as much as seeing the final piece. Well, I know that I like the final piece more because of how fun the whole process was. I am usually a ‘get it done’ kind of gal so it was fun to enjoy the journey. 🙂
WOW! I LOVE this! (and now I might have to take another class! lol)
Haha! I do love her classes! …and thank you! 🙂
Really beautiful…
Thank you, Chantall! ❤
