There is room for me

I love the magazine Where Women Create. I don’t read many mags but this one is a winner in my books. There are so many wonderful and inspiring articles inside its pages. Sometimes I read a quote that resonates with me:

There is always room in this amazing and magical Universe. Remember that.

Much love and happy creating!

Happy 2017!!

Posted by on Jan 2, 2017 | 2 comments

I hope you are having a great beginning to this new year! We had a lovely holiday season and I even managed to squeeze in a bit of painting too! Here is a journal piece I am working on from the online course Sketching and Collage: A Mini-Course on the Jeanne Oliver Creative Network. You have to create an account but it’s free and so very worth it. I have taken many a course and have loved every single one of them. Within this one I’ve learned how to do an image transfer, paint a face with charcoal and gesso and a few other handy techniques. I love learning new ways to create so I am always open to taking a class here and there. This one has definitely been worth it!!

I am still working on this piece in my art journal. The eyes are wonky but that’s okay, it’s not finished but I will post again when it is complete.
We had a great Christmas and the Tofurky was delish! Sorry for the less than great pic here but I took this in low light and didn’t want my meal to get cold! It was sooooo good! Those are my sweet boys! ❤ We love board games and this one had been on our list for years. It’s called Labyrinth by Ravensburg and it’s so very fun!  I treated myself to the Witches’ Calendar this Christmas! Somehow that sentence sound like a bit of an oxymoron… I usually don’t buy calendars for myself because I often use my phone and computer to check dates but I just couldn’t help myself when I saw this one. The illustrations are beautiful and each month includes moon phases, Sabbats and so much more. Plus, there is a spell included for each month. OOOOOO-weeeee to me! Many blessings to you and your’s! May you all have a magical year!

Happy creating!!

Soul Sisters United Art Collective Auction begins tomorrow!

Posted by on Jan 1, 2017 | 2 comments

Happy New Year everyone!! I hope that you all had a wonderful 2016. Even with the ups and downs that I experienced I have to say that it was quite remarkable overall. For one thing, I created more art than I have in years! I made a list of artwork that I either sold or gifted and it was more than I expected. I aim to have 25% more for this year’s list! 😉

Tomorrow is the big day for our second auction! Pictured below is some of the artwork which will be auctioned tomorrow and Tuesday over on Facebook’s Soul Sister’s United Art Collective. There are so many beautiful pieces! I hope you can join us. 🙂

My piece entitled I Am Of You will be included in the auction. I enjoyed creating this piece and you can read more about it here.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Happy creating!

New Painting for auction

Posted by on Dec 18, 2016 | 6 comments

Hello everyone!! It’s been a very busy month so far – and I have barely begun to buy for my boys for Christmas! I am usually finished all of that by now but they wont for nothing this year which is wonderful really, but it’s nice to have a little something under the tree, right? 🙂 So where has my busy-ness been? Well, it’s been wonderful being a part of Soul Sister’s United Art Collective on Facebook. The first auction was wonderful and then I decided to just offer up some magnets and the response was better than expected! Plus, I sold prints on the Creative Spirit Marketplace on Facebook too. With all of the printing, magnet-making and packaging it turned into a couple very busy weeks! But oh it feels so good to have people in my life who enjoy my art. It’s the bestest. ❤

I have to laugh at myself these days because I have one idea in mind when I begin a painting and it ends up being completely different. Lately I’ve decided to begin my canvas paintings with a sketch and then paint them in as opposed to painting down a background first. They begin like this:exampleAnd end up like this:shelter

Quite the transformation! I do like the drawing above quite a bit and think I will try it again, however, I really enjoy the way the piece turned out in the end.

I finished a painting just this past week in preparation for the next Soul Sister’s auction which will be happening the beginning of January. This painting ended up looking nothing at all like I intended yet again. I decided to make a quick drawing on a plain canvas and then paint it all in. This graphite sketch was quick and basic, just to give me a guide to paint by.img_1653Which then turned into this:img_1658I didn’t take a good look at this pic before I continued this piece and the lighting wasn’t the greatest as the day turned to night so it’s a bit of a blur. As you can see I went from a graphite drawing on canvas to covering it all up and then drawing with a Posca Pen on top of the paint. Oh, that was a bit crazy for me. A little unnerving to draw with permanent marker on top of paint, with no sketch marks to copy over. But I managed and it was a good lesson in faith for me: draw what I see in my mind’s eye and just let it flow out.working-2Under all of the dark blue and purple paint are lighter paint colours. What I do next is rub out the top layers of paint with rubbing alcohol to reveal the colours below. I love it! You can see it in the top portion of the painting. img_1665I added more colour and it really began to come alive. However, when I added stars to the sky and the silhouette of the owl, I felt they looked too hastily done or something so I got rid of them. I really loved the birds in flight that I drew in (yet again, in marker) to the top left so to make the eye move around the painting I decided to continue the flight of the birds from the sun to the moon. I felt that they needed to move on, to complete their journey, as we all do. 🙂
img_1670And voila! The final piece! i-am-of-you-72I love the gold and silver paint! I haven’t used these before and I really like that way they add an ethereal touch to the piece.

The theme of the next auction is New Beginnings. This piece is called I Am of You. It’s about connection to all beings and how when we travel on to our next ‘life’ we transcend this one and become something new. But a little part of us is left behind in others or for others: our vibrations, our energies. There is more to it but I’ll leave it at that and you can pull from this what you will if you like. We all see things differently depending on our views, our pasts and our beliefs, our emotions and our energies.

Stay tuned for more information as the auction gets close. You can also join Soul Sister’s United Art Collective as the ten of us share our pieces that will be part of the auction. I am so excited! These artists keep me going, moving forward, creating.

Happy creating to you, too! And have a wonderful Holiday Season! Solstice is upon us soon and Yule as well. Enjoy as you will, may you be filled with many blessings.
